L. Stollenwerk: Antonius Johannes Franciscus Mutsaers, ‘s-Hertogenbosch ca. 1874

About this portrait

Antonius Johannes Franciscus Mutsaers (Tilburg, 1 July 1831 – Haaren, 1 December 1904) — a brother of Wilhelmus Petrus Adrianus Mutsaers, mayor of Tilburg (see his portrait in this collection) — was ordained a priest in 1855 in Haaren and appointed chaplain in Stratum two years later. From 1861 he was a professor at the second division of the seminary. On 24 March 1878 he was appointed canon of the cathedral chapter of ’s-Hertogenbosch, later president of the seminary, private chamberlain to Pope Leo XIII, and a member of the board of management of the institute for the deaf-mute. On 29 August 1894 he was made a Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. This portrait (studio L. Stollenwerk, ’s-Hertogenbosch) shows him as a young man.
