Anthonia Jacoba Ockerscau (Rotterdam, 7 May 1821 – Amersfoort, 10 September 1878) and her husband Dionijs (Jr) Burger (Rotterdam, 4 February 1820 – Amersfoort, 31 October 1891). Dionijs Jr Burger was a classicist and philosopher, translator of Spinoza’s Ethics and rector of the gymnasium in Amersfoort (see also his own portrait in this collection).

Albertus Schlingemann was born on 23 August 1817 in Zwolle as the son of Coenraad Willem Schlingemann, who served as alderman on the Zwolle city council, and jonkvrouwe Johanna Maria Magdalena Sandberg, a descendant of a regent family with roots in Overijssel.
On 28 May 1850 he married, in Maastricht, Adrienne Albertine Sandberg, daughter of Reinier Hendrik Otto Sandberg and Sara Maria van Panhuijs — a marriage that, despite the shared surname of bride and mother, involved no direct blood relation, but does reflect the interconnectedness of the Sandberg family branches.
A son, Reinier Hendrik Otto Schlingemann, was born from the marriage in 1857, shortly before or after Albertus’s own death on 16 May 1857 in Zwolle, at the age of thirty-nine. This daguerreotype was probably made shortly before his death and is thus among the last portraits of him.
The original paper label from the daguerreotype’s case (with wax seal) confirms these details almost verbatim and is thus the primary source for the biographical facts mentioned above.
